Penny Jayne Black

Penny is a UK Singer/Songwriter originally from West Sussex, but now living in Hampshire near London. Her love of music came from her dad who was in the Navy, instead of reading her children stories at night, he would sing and play her country songs on his guitar. As a result she would lay awake at night making up her own songs and dreaming of a future as a singer. As she grew up, she continued to write songs whilst having a variety of jobs including working at EMI Records, which really fuelled her fire to continue with a music career. Her biggest boost came with a six-week adventure to California, where she immersed herself in Country Music whilst travelling from L.A to San Francisco and further up the Northern Coastline. With this experience, along with influences from leading female singers of the 80s & 90s era, and the new crop of Singer/Songwriters, she has gone on to develop her own unique style. She started performing around the South of England, building up a following, then in 2015 went to Nashville to record six of her songs, returning in April 2016 to complete her 11 Track self-titled album. Her Debut Album consisted of a mix of Country/Pop, Alternative, and Retro Country, with Intimate, Powerful & Quirky tales of Love, Passion, Humour, and Hope. Penny’s debut Single ‘California’, released on 1st September 2016, peaked at No.7 in the British & Irish Top 10 Hotdisc Charts. The single was also released in the USA and picked up spot plays in several States. The video to ‘California’ was nominated for 'Best Video' in the 2016 British & Irish HotDisc Awards. In January 2017 Penny started putting musicians together, she did a ‘Whispering Bob Harris’ – ‘Under The Apple Tree’ Session which was broadcast in the summer, then in June, Penny started her ‘Both Sides of the Pond Tour’. The tour began over The CMA weekend in Nashville & finished up with a performance at ‘The British Country Music Awards’ in Wolverhampton on 22nd October. The following Singles 'Gotta Get to Nashville’, ‘Log Cabin’ & This Ain’t Love reached No.5, No.8 & No.10 respectively in the British & Irish Top 10 Hotdisc Charts & Penny has maintained the No.1 spot in The UK Country & The Global Country Reverbnation Charts for several months now.
